As part of the 10th edition of the European Month of Photography, Casino Luxembourg invites Théophile Calot, director of delpire & co bookshop in Paris and curator, to explore the diversity of the image field.
The exhibition TUBE.PHOTO.DASH explores the close dialogue between the exhibition space and the artist’s book, and examines the process of image metamorphosis according to its mode of dissemination. By exploring the issues of its orientation – horizontal in the book, vertical on the wall – and the different ways of showing it, the exhibition encourages us to take a different look at how we read images. While the book invites introspective, physical and more intimate contemplation when held in the hand, the exhibition offers a more distant, open and collective approach. Invoking sensoriality and experimentation, the book invites us to touch, whereas the exhibition suggests observation.
The guest artists – Christian Aschman, Julien Carreyn, Bertrand Cavalier, Wade Guyton, Pierre Hourquet, Aurélien Mole, Katja Stuke & Oliver Sieber, Batia Suter, Rebecca Topakian, Wolfgang Tillmans and Ruth Van Beek – invite visitors to discover some twenty works, matched with eleven books for consultation. Amateur photographs taken during a workshop for young audiences at Casino Luxembourg, based on the playful exercises in the book Eyes Open – 23 photographic ideas for curious children by American photojournalist Susan Meiselas, will also be included in the exhibition.
