Originally, Anderson began photographing police officers in New York City following the 9/11 attacks and the subsequent change to the visual landscape of Anderson’s home city. As the city transformed—with bomb blast barriers appearing, cops becoming heavily armed, and the presence of security increasing—Anderson found himself reminded that something was deeply wrong.

With Occupy Wall Street, the death of Eric Garner and eventually Trump’s election, Anderson found himself making photographs of cops on the streets of New York City once again, as a form of unconscious protest on a larger sense of authority.
