“The Essence of Toshiko Okanoue”, a collection of works by the Japanese artist Yoshiko Okagami, has been reassessed in recent years. In 2000, the solo exhibition “Yoshiko Okanoue Photo Collage – Drops of Dreams” was organised by Ryuichi Kaneko (1948-2021). ), one of Japan’s leading photographic historians, and was Okanoue’s first solo exhibition in 44 years. Since then, his first book of works was published by Nazraeli Press in the 2000s, followed by his first book of works in Japan, “Harukana Tabi. ” in 2015. Since then, she has received a great response from men and women of all ages in Japan and has become a figure of the moment with exhibitions at the Museum of Art in Kochi in 2018 and the Tokyo Metropolitan Teien Art Museum in 2019. Recently there has been a solo exhibition by pioneering photographer Eiko Yamazawa, and (female) artists active since the early post-war period have become the focus of renewed attention. This book, published by Kawade Shobo Shinsha. the publisher of Faraway Journey, combines Okagami’s interviews and autograph texts with her collage works to present a collection of images and words that capture the ’emotional twists’ and ‘feelings’ Okagami described in her past works.
