People Painting

A parody of a fan book, People Painting is an artist’s book made up of a collection of found images of famous personalities (from the 1920s to 2020) painting or posing in their studios.

These celebrities are known for their activities in show business (cinema, music, sport, music hall, crowned heads) and practice painting as a hobby with varying degrees of dedication and persistence. They like to let themselves be captured in this activity or to stage themselves, reproducing stereotypical postures of the artist figure. Postures in the sense of a way of occupying a position and adjusting one’s attitude to this position, taking into account the gaze of others. Having made their name in other fields of expression, these personalities are given the opportunity to display a new facet that refines, completes or upsets the image they wish to project. To our great amusement, mild annoyance, sporadic delight or simple astonishment.
