The Magic Castle

An original work based on a series of photographs taken by Richard Prince while he was a student in France: an artist’s book with which Prince opens a window on his formative years.

The American artist Richard Prince is one of the precursors of the art of appropriation. By re-photographing advertising images or recycling elements of popular culture that he reframes or reproduces, silkscreens, enlarges or reorganizes within collages, he asks the question, by playing with the signifying emptiness that characterizes these clichés, of the foundations of American mythology, but also of the authorship of the work, plagiarism, intellectual property and the diffusion of the image.
