Wojciech Zamecznik is a Polish graphic artist considered a pioneer in the association of the photographic medium with the graphic arts. This book is published as part of the exhibition at the Musée de l’Elysée, in collaboration with the Archeologia Fotografii Foundation, which holds the artist’s archives in Warsaw.
The book presents the multidisciplinary and experimental character of Zamecznik’s work. His work covers a wide range of subjects (portraits, landscapes, architecture, still lifes) revealing his interest in documentary and humanist photography and, above all, the aestheticism of the New Vision. He also shows a more experimental practice (photomontages, photograms, overexposures, chemical manipulations) and a direct work on the photosensitive material. The images shown here are used for different media: publishing, posters, films, record sleeves. They are also used for his work as a set designer for exhibitions and shows. The iconographic selection includes reproductions of Zamecznik’s original prints, negatives, preparatory proofs, prints, contact sheets and his finished graphic work.
The publication includes a study of his photographic practice (Anne Lacoste), a biographical text (Karolina Puchala-Rojek), and a text introducing Zamecznik’s contemporary Polish art scene (Agnieszka Szewczyk and Karolina Lewandowska).
