In the early 2000s, Jean-Christophe Béchet began experimenting with photographic materials. Born of an interest in the accidental in the image, it reached its apogee in a hybridisation of silver and digital techniques, the inventive and striking results of which are collected in this book.
Before designing hybrid prints, Béchet began by collecting film primers containing veiled, amputated or erased photos to which he found an unexpected quality. Taking in the slides and polaroids from the ‘Accidents’ series exhibited at the Rencontres d’Arles in 2013, this book revisits two decades of explorations.
